Answer #1

The volume of bag of IV solution is 500 ml.

Available KCL in pharmacy is 20 mEq / 10 ml

required dosage to child is 2mEq/100ml at 30ml/hr.

A. As required dosage is 2mEq/100 ml

That IV bag is 500 ml which is 5 * 100 ml

amount of KCL required for 500 ml IV bag to attain 2mEq/100 ml concentration is  = 5 * 2 mEq

which is 10mEq.

10mEq KCL should be added to the IV bag by pharmacy.

B. Available KCL is 20 mEq per 10ml

which means 20 mEq KCL is present in 10ml

required KCL to be added is 10mEq. It is present in 5ml.

so 5ml KCL should be added to IV bag by pharmacy.
