The consumption of excessive alcohol, smoking should be avoided. The consumption of alcohol may cause under growth of the fetus. During pregnancy, there is development process going on inside the uterus. What we eat or do is directly effect the fetus. The intake of alcohol or smoking causes under development of brain as well as it also weakens the lungs.

So, the protein, folic acid and all the essential vitamins helos the fetus to grow. Calcium provides the development of bone where as the iron maintains the supply of the nutrients to the fetus. Lack of any of these vitamins may lead to low weight of the infants and other abnormalities.
