DRUG CALCULATIONS:....

In oral solution, the weight of the drug is contained in a certain volume of solution

Liquid or oral solution syrup guaifenesin : 100 mg in 5 mL

The dosage strength is still an important piece of information when doing calculation and this information can be found on the medication label

Notice that the dosage strengh will be given in mg per mL or milligram per milliliter.

Say the dosage strength is 100 mg per 5 mL and the bottle . If the doctor orders 200 mg, how much oral solution will you give?

200 mg is twice as big as 100 mg, so the oral solution is also twice as big

Since 200 mg = 100 × 2, the oral solution to give = 5 mL × 2 = 10 mL

You will give 10 mL of oral solution..

ANSWER: nurse would administer 10 ml of syrup guaifenesin through gastric tube each time / 6 Th hourly.
