I'm working on a patient medical report and having difficulty with finding what type of medicine is given to a patient that has been admitted to the hospital with acute cholecystitis? What type of antibiotic is given? And how long do they wait till surgery is done?

Acute cholecystitis refers to sudden inflammation o the gallbladder and patient experiencing symptoms of it.

Generally broad spectrum antibiotics are selected to kill both the gram positive and gram negative bacteria. (Piperacillin and Tazobactum combination are selected or Ceftriazone)

For severe cases the antibiotics are prescribed toll the surgery and continued for a day post operatively

Antibiotic course of five days are started and continued in post op period depending upon patient condition .It can be continued in oral forms in case of patient prognosis in relation to the symptoms.

The average waiting period is 3 days or a week or 10 days for taking the patient to surgery

When there is mold symptoms and manageable with medical treatment after diagnosis then they can wait approximately from a week to six weeks.As surgery is the only option for complete cure.
