The main aim of the law is to keep the patient information confidential and out of reach of any irresponsible personnel. There are various sub-titles of this law that protects the individual from being vulnerable to any sort of fraud or harm through information sharing and breach. The law enforces thorough confidentiality principles among the professionals that can not share the patient's information without their consent. Violation of HIPPA regulation is foreseen with some sort of penalties based on intensity of breach and severity of harm occurred . It can range from a penalty of $100 to $50,000. Incompetency with this law can also lead to criminal charges that results in imprisonment.
