Related content: The terminal illness is a condition where patient can't be cured. It becomes progressive with time. Some of the diseases which leads to death such as advance stage cancer etc.

Underlying principles: The terminal illness can not be cured and hence it is important to take intensive care of the patient. Sometimes patient themselves doesn't want to proceed their treatment anymore. They ask for euthanasia or physician assisted suicide.

Nursing intervention:

  • The nurse should intervene about the physical comfort of the patients.
  • The nurse should indulge in providing spiritual needs to the patient.
  • At this stage of life emotional support should be provided.
  • Ask family members to stay with the patient.
  • Ask patient regarding anything of wish.
