As a supervisor, you notice that one of your employees is consistently clocking out late resulting in overtime. The hospital has a strict policy that all overtime must be approved in advance. The employee states that there isn’t enough staff and they are staying late to finish working with patients. Should you formally reprimand the employee? How can you ensure that the overtime policy is not violated moving forward?

An employee who is late repeatedly without any notice or approval cannot be encouraged to do so .This can be a wrong guidance for others and will definitely affect the working environment. The employee has to be given a verbal reprimand for the first time. If the employee doesn't follows and abides it then they have to be issued a formal written reprimand.

Some of the best way to ensure that the overtime policy is not violated by moving forward are

  • Conducting a training program on periodic basis about the hospital's policy,rules and regulations
  • Maintaining a digital system and regular scanning
