Contact burn is a type of burn resulting from making contact with the heated objects such as ashes and coal, hot cooking oil, hot objects, cooking utensils,light bulbs and exhaust pipes.

Diagnosis:-

Contact Burn

Pathophysiology related to client problem:-

Hot objects, ashes and coal, hot pressing irons,light bulbs,exhaust pilpes, hot cooking oil can cause contact burn which result in cellular destruction of skin layer and underlying tissue.

Health promotion and disease prevention:-

-- Fire extinguisher can be used for putting out the fire.

- All burnt clothes should be removed.

- To avoid contamination , the burnt parts should be wrapped in a clean,dry sheet/ cloth.

- Don't give anything to eat and drink as this may result in vomiting.

Risk factors:-

-Use of cooking pots on ground level (floor cooking)

- Use of open wood fires.

- Faulty habits like use of clothing to hold cooking pot.

Expected finding:-

-Redness,pain ,swelling

- Blisters may develop

Laboratory test:-

- White blood cell(WBC),Neutrophil percentage,ESR and C-Reactive protein(CRP) level are done for detecting or predicting burn infection and inflammatory responses.

Diagnostic procedure:-

- Assess the severity of burn by examining skin

- Some laboratory test such as WBC,CRP level, ESR should be done.

Nursing care :-

- Maintain client airway/respiratory function.

-Maintain IV and fluid intake.

- Alleviate pain by painkiller

- Regular cleaning of affected parts to prevent infection.

Therapeutic procedure:-

- Fluid to prevent dehydration

- Medication for pain and anxiety

- Cream for burn

- Tetanus shot

Medication:-

- Painkiller for reliefing pain

- Antibiotics for wound healing

- IV fluid to prevent dehydration

Client Education:-

- Regular Clearing of the affected part.

- Take protein rich diet.

Complication:-

- Bacterial infection

- Pulmonary edema

- Ulcer formation
