It does not mean that extreme cold weather in winter rejects the ongoing climate change theory. First of all, weather and climate are quite different. Weather is based on daily observations for a few months or so whereas, climate is also daily observations but that for a longer period of time say 35 years. Global warming means rising in earth's average temperature due to trapping of heat by greenhouse gases like methane, carbon dioxide. Abnormal hot weather in some parts is obviously the result of this climate shift but scientists found that rising levels of these gases also leads to extreme cooling. Studies suggested due to global warming, arctic temperatures are rising whereas North America is experiencing extreme cold. Actually, due to this abnormality, jet streams swing wildly, and the cold arctic air flows southward. At the same time, some regions experience very hot climate.
