Both Walter Cannon and Hans Selye theorized about link between stress and physical disease. Describe the primary differences in their theories. Give examples to elaborate.
Walter Canon's theory of stress discusses three responses to
stressful situations, i.e., fight, flight, and freeze. According to
him, when we face a negative or stressful situation in life, we
either fight, if capable of, with the situation to cope or win.
When it's not possible to fight the situation, we escape, i.e.,
flight. In the third response, however, if both fight and flight
are not possible, the individual freezes and becomes unable to
respond at all. For e.g, if one sees a tiger coming towards him, he
would either run (flight) or fight if equipped (fight) or just
freeze on the spot.
In Hans Selye's theory, for every stressful situation, our body
reacts in the same way (General Adaptation Syndrome). It starts
with an "alarm reaction", in which the body prepares for a
stressful situation. In this stage, a stressful situation is
perceived and the body decides to either fight or flight. Then in
the "resistance" stage, the body focuses on being alert, at the
same time the parasympathetic system tries to get back the
homeostasis. Then, in the last stage, the body goes into the
"exhaustion" phase before going back to homeostasis. Thus, the
selye's theory incorporates Canon's theory and elaborates the
process further.

Metabolic Stress In your own words, describe the metabolic differences between starvation and stress related to resting energy expenditure, primary fuels, circulating hormones and protein status. Give an example of how you would determine a diet order for a stressed person and for a starved person.
Describe one physical, chemical, biological or psycho-social stress hazard that workers can be exposed to on the job, and one strategy that can be implemented to prevent or reduce the exposure. Why is it important for primary healthcare providers, (physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants) to ask patients about their occupation when performing routine physical exams? be specific an use supportive examples in response
1. Patient A complains about feet swelling recently which gets worse and worse. Please list the potential pathological conditions associated with foot swelling and explain the pathogenesis of the edema under that condition. 2. Please list at least 5 conditions that cause secondary hypertension and explain the pathogenesis of each condition. 3. BACKGROUND & METHODS The relationship between stress and breast cancer has been examined in many epidemiological studies, the results of which have yielded mixed results. One reason for these differences is the use of different measures of stress. For example, death of a spouse or close relative is a major acute stressor, whereas stress experienced in daily life is more moderate and chronic in nature. As these different types of stress likely have different physiological and psychological impacts, the observed...

Discuss the pharmacokinetics of children 1 year old or older. Discuss reasons pediatric patients are subject to adverse drug reactions when drug levels rise too high. Discuss dosage determination, noting that pediatric doses have been established for some drugs but not for others and, therefore, for drugs that do not have established pediatric doses, the doses can be extrapolated from adult doses. Discuss the appropriate steps in determining exposure to teratogens. Discuss drug therapy during breast-feeding and the potential risks...
