Ascomycetes: Members of the ascomycota are usually called ascomycetes. Most of the ascomycetes reproduce asexually by means of conidia, produced in chains at the end of conidiophore.

All ascomycetes form in the ascocarp a reproductive structure called an ascus ( Sac lke structure) during sexual reproduction. An ascus is a sac like structure in which upto eight haploid ascospores form.

Basidiomycetes: Members of the basidiomycota are club fungi. Common mushroom, puffball, parasitic rust and smut fungi comes under this category.
