Answer #1

Answer

E, All are true.

Explanation

Penicillin can irreversibly inhibits an enzyme, transpeptidase by reacting with a serine residue in the transpeptidase. Bacteria produces enzymes beta-lactamases which cleaves the beta-lactam ring of penicillins and inactivates the antibiotic. Augmentin contains amoxicillin as the primary ingredient and it also contains a β-lactamase inhibitor to inhibit the enzyme β-lactamase. The penicillins kills susceptible bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial peptidoglycan cell wall that provides rigid stability to cellwall.
