Fastfood atfect our body in a number of ways:
1. Frequent fast food consumption gives regular sugar spikes to the body which can falter our normal insulin response leading to wright gain and insulin resistance.
2. Food industries add trans fat to increase shelf life of food. This trans fat can increase our bad cholesterol (LDL) and decrease good cholesterol (HDL), thereby increasing risk for type 2 diabetes.
3. A combination of fat, sugar and high sodium is what makes fast food tasty. However increased sodium can lead to water retention making us feel bloated after a fast food meal.
4. Excess fast food, leading to obesity can invite respiratory troubles like asthma and shortness of breath.
5. Sudden sugar spikes in blood sugar due to fast food can cause acne breakouts and skin conditions.
6.Fastfood causes increase of acid in the mouth that break down tooth enamel making it easier for bacteria to take hold and cause cavities.
7. Fast food also makes us probe to depression.
Things food industries are doing to better our health:
1.Biofortification: Improving the nutrients present in food by adding nutrients or minerals lacking in the cropo food grown naurally.
For eg: Iodized salts- Biofortification of iodine in salt to provide it in diet, Biofortification of Vitamin A in rice to prevent deficiency syndromes, etc.
2. Manufacturing edible oils with less Poly unsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and more mono unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) cause MUFA is mre stable and doesn't oxdise easily making it a safer and healthier option for cooking.
