Basic Introduction - Nikola Tesla was born in Smiljan's Croatian village. Many men born in this area have historically been destined for a lifetime as a priest in the Church or as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army. But there were other dreams for young Tesla. The beginning of his life was defined by three things: a disease, a family tragedy, and his mother's unique genetic gifts. Tesla always claimed that his photographic memory and vivid imagination had been transmitted from his mother, Mandíc. Without hesitation, she could recite long passages of poetry by heart and crafted her own tools with impressively intricate designs to create fabrics.

Management Skills - Tesla immigrated to the U.S. in 1884 and later claimed that if he could solve a series of engineering problems faced by Edison's company he was offered the sum of US$ 50,000. After reaching the feat, Tesla said he was told that the offer was just a joke, and after six months he left the company. Tesla then developed a relationship with two entrepreneurs that led to Tesla Electric Light and Manufacturing being founded. He filed a number of electrical patents that he assigned to the firm. Once his investors decided to focus only on electricity supply, they took the intellectual property of the firm and formed another company, leaving Tesla with nothing. Tesla was fascinated with a single idea for most of his adult life, given his endlessly curious mind: being able to power the planet with wireless energy. His laboratory experiments in this field became too dangerous for a crowded city but, fortunately, an associate found an isolated site in Colorado Springs in 1899. Tesla jumped to the opportunity to conduct some experiments on a large scale. He also tested the probability of transmitting energy across the surface of the Earth. He sent massive voltage amounts into the surrounding area by experimenting with high and low frequencies. Tesla's life has often been filled with controversy, as the ambitious plans for Wardenclyffe show us. But as long as the controversy about who would be credited with inventing radio communication, no problems remained. The fact is that in 1897 Tesla filed his basic radio patent. But when the first transatlantic radio communication was sent by Guglielmo Marconi in December 1901, it set off a series of legal battles that would last decades. Despite having been an American citizen since 1891, his papers and belongings were confiscated by the government's Office of Alien Property Custodian. It was rumored that this might have been due to Tesla talking about his work on a powerful, armed particle beam technology that he offered to end the war as another solution. No papers have ever been found on the details of any such beam. Like most of the inventions of Tesla, the design most likely lived in his imagination. Perhaps Nikola Tesla was America's greatest inventive mind. Certainly, few have surpassed his boundless imagination when it comes to the electricity field.
