A multiple-unit process is used to separate the products: ethylene, oxygen, and inerts are recycled to the reactor, ethylene oxide is sold as a product, and carbon dioxide and water are discarded. A purge stream is needed to remove the same amount of inerts from the system as the amount of inerts that enters the system. The reactor effluent contains 2.06% inerts.
