1. A cell has 26 chromosomes. How many chromosomes will its gamete have? Which cell is called diploid and which one is haploid?

  • 2. A plant has 42 chromosomes. Due to a problem its gametes did not undergo meiosis and they directly fused. The resulting offspring has _________ chromosomes. It now yields a bigger variety of fruits. This is called ______________.
  • 3. Alligators have 32 chromosomes. Their skin cell will undergo _____________. After cell division __________ number of cells will be formed and each will have ______________ chromosomes. Its ovarian cells will undergo _____________. After cell division __________ number of cells will be formed and each will have ______________ chromosomes.

Answer #1

ANSWER :

1) If a cell has 26 chromosomes then its gamete has 13 chromosomes and called haploid cell while those one have 26 chromosomes would be diploid cell.

2) A plant has 42 chromosomes doesn't undergo meiosis then resulting offsprings would have 84 chromosomes and this condition is called tetraploidy.

3) Alligators have 32 chromosomes, their skin cells will undergo mitosis. After cell division diploid number of cells will be formed and each will have 32 chromosomes. Its ovarian cells will undergo meiosis. After cell division haploid number of cells will be formed and each will have 16 chromosomes.

In the moss Polytrichum commune, the haploid chromosome number is 7. A haploid male gamete fuses with a haploid female gamete to form a diploid cell that divides and develops into the multicellular sporophyte. Cells of the sporophyte undergo meiosis to produce haploid cells called spores. What is the probability that an individual spore will contain a set of chromosomes all of which came from the male gamete? (You may assume that no crossing over occurs during meiosis.) 0 0.5...
