Answer #1

a) Describe the W's

Who: Volunteers (It refers to WHO are the subjects)

What: Memory Test ( It refers to WHAT is the experiment or treatment etc.)

Where: Not specified

When: Not specified

How: Students asked volunteers to take a memory test 2 hours after drinking soda. Some drank caffeine-free soda, some drank regular soda (with caffeine) and others drank a mixture of the two (getting a half dose of caffeine).

Why: To determine if caffeine has an impact on memory

B) Name the variables and classify each as categorical or quantitative

a) Memory test score: Quantitative

b) Level of caffeine in the drink(No, Low, and High): Categorical

C) Create parallel boxplots to display these results the best you can with this information

Using min, max, Q1, Q3 and median have plotted box plots of three categories in EXCEL

Which resembles the option C of the question.

d) The participants scored about the same with No and Low caffeine. The median for these two groups were close with, slightly more variation in High Caffeine The High Caffeine generally scored lower than the other two groups on all measures of the 5-number summary.

The high caffeine has the largest range of scores and consistently remembered fewer items as compared to No and low caffeine group. The no and low groups had similar data with the no caffeine group being more consistent with the number of items remembered. The low caffeine groups had a slightly higher range of scores than the no caffeine group but the median values were the same.

This leads us to hypothesize that the ability to recall dreams ill also be affected by hypnotic susceptibility (HS). Using the Stanford Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility, we create low, medium, and high susceptibility groups by selecting from volunteers who took the scale. We then asked the volunteers to keep a dream diary for 1 month. At the end of the month,...

Regression and Correlation Methods: Correlation, ANOVA, and Least Squares This is another way of assessing the possible association between a normally distributed variable y and a categorical variable x. These techniques are special cases of linear regression methods. The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate methods of regression and correlation analysis in which two different variables in the same sample are related. The following are three important statistics, or methodologies, for using correlation and regression: Pearson's correlation coefficient ANOVA...
