Dissolved oxygen refers to the amount of oxygen in the water, it directly affects the aquatic animal as fish is affected in the aquarium. Fishes use this oxygen of the water for Respiration.

Over a period of time the level of dissolved oxygen decreases in a jar, because fishes continue to pass their excreta in the same water where they swim. This area is quite restrictive in comparison to the sea, river, ocean etc.

Fishes are amminotelic in nature, thus they excrete ammonia into the jar water. This decreases the dissolved oxygen of the jar. Thus, it requires cleaning at regular intervals otherwise it affects the fish life.
