Why are we constantly being exhorted to get up and move, especially if we have a sedentary job?
Human body is a complex 'living machine' in which so many organ systems work together in complete synchronisation with each other. For a healthy human being , this synchronisation should be perfect because being healthy is not only the absence of diseases in the body but also being in rhythm with nature.
Diet plays an important role in being fit and fine but along with this being physically active is equally important. When one is active physically, the mind and the body, both are alert.
The current lifestyle of most people involves less of physical activity which is one of the biggest reasons for several diseases, obesity being one of them . In fact, obesity among all age groups, has taken alarming proportions and is a matter of serious concern because not only is it a disese by itself ,but it is also a precursor of several diseases like diabetes, heart problems, depression etc.
One important way to avoid this is being active physically.
Physical activity makes our muscles flexible, the breathing system strong and the circulation of blood perfect. Each cell of the body is activated and the performance of the individual is enhanced manifold. There are so many physical activities we can chose from-- any sport of our choice, jogging, walking, cycling, swimming ..... the list is endless.
Lack of physical activity makes a person lethargic and dull. The musles are not activated and the circulation of blood is sluggish. It also affects the mental health of a person as they tend to become unsocial and confined to themselves. They get less opportunity to interact with people, and also with nature, and this takes a toll on their attitude towards life.
So, to sum it up, physical movement is absolutely essential to keep our muscles flexible and all the other body systems working properly. Being in one position or place for a long time can also affect our backbone and the neck. So, getting up, moving around, flexing ones arm and legs, exercising the neck , having a chit- chat with people around us is very important for a healthy mind and body. Infact, taking small breaks in between sitting and working, enhances ones performance and efficiency and makes a person feel fresh and love and enjoy the work even more.
So, we should balance our work and physical fitness to stay happy and live healthy.
