Function: the components of an ecosystem function as a unit with a number of delicately balanced and controlled processes .

Productivity: primary productivity- Npp= Gpp-R ,secondary productivity
Decomposition : detritus ,mineralization, nutrient immobilization.
Energy flow: food chain and food web
Nutrient cycling : gaseous cycles and sedimentary cycles (n,c,p,s etc)
