Answer #1

Answers to questions 49 and 50.

Assuming the population to be in accordance with Hardy Weinberg equilibrium.

Relevant Equation: (p+q)2 = p2+2pq+q2 = 1.

Individuals (GG for homozygous grey.)Individuals (bb for homozygous black.)Individuals (Gb for heterozygous grey.)

p= frequency of allele G ,q = frequency of allele b.

p2= frequency of individual GG

q2= frequency of individual bb

2pq = frequency of individual Gb

Answer 49 is E.In the given population,q2= frequency of individual bb is 9%=0.09.Therefore, q is square root of 9% i.e, 0.3.

Answer 50 is C. As p+q=1.From above,p = 1 - q = 1- 0.3 = 0.7.Therefore p2= (0.7)2 =0.49= 49%.

Answers to questions 51 and 52

Answer 51 is A Incomplete dominance

In regard to anemia phenotype in normal oxygen conditions, owing to the blood cell shape, it exhibits incomplete dominance.

Answer 52 is B Codominance.

In regard to the hemoglobin itself, it exhibits Codominance.

    The coat color gene of a population of squirrels is defined by a dominant allele G, which encodes a gray coat, and a recessive allele g, which encodes a black coat. In a population, genetic typing reveals the genotypic distribution to be 50 GG, 30 Gg, and 20 gg. If this population is in equilibrium, then what should the genotypic frequency of Gg squirrels in this population be? 0.52 0.46 0.42 0.55

    A population of flour beetles has 1000 individuals. Normally the beetles are red in color; however, this population has a utation in the gene for body color that results in black beetles that are designated by the rr genotype. Red body color is dominant to black so the genotypes RR and Rr result in red beetles. Assume the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, with a 50% frequency of each allele for body color. A) --- what is the frequency of...

    2.3 Problem 3 The Hardy-Weinberg equation is useful for predicting the percent of a hu- man population that may be heterozygous carriers of recessive alleles for certain genetic diseases. Phenylketonuria (PKU) is a human metabolic dis- order that results in mental retardation if it is untreated in infancy. In the United States, one out of approximately 10.000 babies is born with the disor- der. Approximately what percent of the population are heterozygous carriers of the recessive PKU allele? If you...
