If a cell does not have mitochondria, it cannot harvest the entire energy stored in a molecule of glucose? A)True B)False

Phosphofructokinase is an enzyme that is important for the breakdown of the glucose molecule to generate ATP. In regards to that, when the ATP levels are high, the phosphofructokinase is inhibited. What do you expect to happen to the enzyme when the levels of ATP within the cell drop?

1.The enzyme will be activated.

2.The enzyme will be deactivated.

3.The production of pyruvate will decrease.

4.The generation of NADH from the glucose molecule will stop

Answer #1

ANS. A) TRUE becuase mitochondria is power house of a cell, they act same like a digestive system which helps in breakdown of nutrients of our body releasing energy. This energy is utilized by cells for growth and proper functioning of body. So, if a cell lacks mitochondria it will be dead as it won't have power in form of energy for its proper functioning.

ANS. Option 1. The enzyme will be activated. Because, Phosphofructokinase is an enzyme that helps in breakdown of glucose to generate ATP. If levels of ATP within the cell drops the acitivity of enzyme is activated or increased to stimulate breakdown of glucose so that more energy is released.
