Albino rabbits (lacking pigment) are homozygous for the recessive c allele (C allows pigment formation). Rabbits homozygous for the recessive b allele make brown pigment, while those with at least one copy of B make black pigment. True-breeding black rabbits were crossed to albinos. F1 rabbits, which were all black, were crossed to the double recessive (bb cc). The progeny obtained were 40 black, 60 brown, and 100 albino.

What phenotypic proportions would have been expected if the b and c loci were unlinked?

How far apart are the two loci?

What are the genotypes of the parents?

Answer #1

Answer:

BBCC (true-black) x bbcc(albino)----P1

BbCc (black)-----------------------------F1

BbCc (F1) x bbcc (double recessive)

bc

BC

BbCc (black)

Bc

Bbcc (albino)

bC

bbCc (brown)

bc

bbcc (albino)

If the genes are unlinked, the phenotypic proportions of the cats are as follows.

Black = ¼ = ¼ * 200 = 50

Brown = ¼ = ¼ * 200 = 50

Albino = ½ = ½ * 200 = 100

Recombination frequency = (Recombinants / Total progeny)100

RF= (60/ 200)100

= 30%

RF(%) = Distance between the genes (m.u.)

So the distance between the genes = 30 m.u.

The agouti locus in mice has three alleles: a is recessive and confers a black coat, A is dominant to a and confers an agouti coat, and AY is dominant to both and confers a yellow coat. 1. At least 3 independently assorting loci are known to govern coat color in mice. The genotype C- will allow pigment to be produced by 2 other genes. The cc genotype does not allow pigment production resulting in albino mice. The striped “agouti” hair pattern depends on the genotype A- and the aa genotype is nonagouti. Finally, the color of the pigment may be black (B-) or brown (bb). Five different coat colors may be produced by the action of...

    1) Coat color in mice is determined by several independently assorting autosomal genes. Gene A is involved in the distribution of pigment along the hair. A dominant allele (A) produces a hair color called "agouti"--the hair has dark pigment at the base and tip of each hair shaft and yellow pigment in the central portion of the shaft. Homozygous recessive mice (aa) are missing the yellow stripe and thus have solid dark-colored hair. Gene B is involved in the color...

    Laborador retrievers come in 3 colors-black, brown or golden. Gene B determines what color of pigment is produced, with black being dominant over brown. Gene C determines pigment deposition, with the prescense of the dominant allele resulting in pigment deposition and homozygous recessive resulting in a golden appearance (no deposition). a) which gene is epistatic to which? b) If a Bbcc individual is crossed with a bbCc, what proportion of the progeny will be black, brown of golden? c) you...

    In the snail Cepaea nemoralis, an autosomal allele causing a banded shell (B ) is recessive to the allele for unbanded shell (O ). Genes at a different locus determine the background color of the shell; here, yellow (Y ) is recessive to brown (Bw ). A banded, yellow snail is crossed with a homozygous brown, unbanded snail. The F1 are then crossed with banded, yellow snails (a testcross). What will be the phenotypic classes resulting from a testcross if...

    19. Two different gene loci are responsible for determining mouse coat color. A recessive lethal allele contributing to yellow coat color also exists for one of these two gene loci. The following genotypic and phenotypic information about the mouse coat color alleles is known: (6) Agouti = A-B- • Yellow = AA'B-or A'aB-or A'ab- Lethal (inviable zygote) = A'A- Black = aaB- Albino = -bb a.
