Ans. Triple sugar iron (TSI) medium consists of three sugars (glucose, lactose and sucrose), sulphur in from of ferrous sulfate, sodium thiosulfate, and phenol red as indicator.

The bacteria which can ferment any of these sugars cause change of the color of the medium. Sulphur reduction by bacteria is exhibited blackening of the medium.

# It is used as differential medium for identification of enteric bacteria including Enterobactor, Salmonella, Shigella, etc.
