Answer #1

The activity that I am interested in is fitness.

AEIOU framework-

  • Activities- People go to fitness centers for fitness workouts.
  • Environment- The environment is highly motivating and people compete with each other in doing the workouts. The environment is very appealing and most likely to attract many customers.
  • Interactions- Yes, there is a routine. Physical trainers interact with the customers. There is a high level of engagement between the people and the objects (equipment). Both customers and physical trainers are highly cooperative and work in a highly motivated environment.
  • Objects- All kind of fitness equipment is available in that particular fitness center. However, few are not used much due to its heaviness. The work-arounds is that it can be used for customers who come to the fitness centers for body building.
  • Users- The users that I have been observing are customers who come to the fitness centers for body building, to reduce weight and customers who want to be healthy and fit.

Insight- Fitness is highly pertinent in today’s life and I understand that it is not a compulsion for someone. Fun and commitment would make fitness very interesting. I have decided to start off with my fitness training as I am inspired by the people whom I have observed.

Critical thinking questions-

  • Yes, Observing and seeing are two different skills. Seeing is just an activity and is a physical process. On the other hand, observation is seeing what happens along with our thinking. In other words, observation is we make connections to what we see so that we learn or get a deeper insight/understanding to what we see. In the observation that I have made, if I just see, then it is only the objects and the people that I would see. However, I observed which made me to understand how people are using the objects and are competent with each other to do their workouts. The highly competitive environment is what made the workouts interesting.
  • In the AEIOU framework, the aspect of observation that I found most useful is Interactions. The reason is that it helps me to understand how people interact without any conflicts. It also helped me to understand how people create social networks which are beneficial for both the parties. The aspect that was most challenging is to understand the environment. Only after observing for quite some time, did I understand the environment in the fitness center.
