Answer ) bicoid induces the transcription of hunchback and inhibit translation of caudal

EXPLANATION

Bicoid hucnchback nanos and caudal are maternal effect gene product means that mRNA are localise from the mother cell into the egg. These are important for anterior posterior region formation in the drosophila embryo. The bicoid and hunchback is responsible for anterior region formation while the nanos and caudal are responsible for posterior region formation. Bicoid induces the higher transcription of hunchback while inhibit the caudal translation. In posterior nanos induce the transcript of nanos and inhibit the translation of hunchback. This result in high to low concentrations gradient formation for bicoid and hunchback anterior to posterior while for nanos and caudal posterior to anterior. If bicoid gene is mutated then absence of anterior ( head and thorax) will occur in embryo while injection of bicoid in the middle of embryo lead to new head formation in the middle region of embryo.
