In what ways can the relational mental models affect what happens in the workplace?
As per the relational mental models the individuals have four different types of models to develop, understand, coordinate, compete, appraise, remember, plan and consider the various elements of the social interaction that takes place in the social situation. The different models are stated as below-
Communal Sharing (CS) = This is the model that highlights that the individuals treat the other individuals or groups as similar and identical to the social domain.
Authority Ranking (AR) = This indicates that the individuals have a varied position in the linear structure where the lower hierarchy individual obey, respect while the superiors take decisions and responsibility for the work of subordinates
Equality Matching (EM)= This is the model in which the different individuals try to maintain the balance of differential among each other and they try to find out the various factors that are important to have the balance.
Market Pricing (MP) = This model explains that the relationships are related to socially meaningful factors such as rents, wages, cost-benefit analysis, and so on. Money is not necessary to be used as a tool for it.
If we look at all the above-stated models, the behaviors and the conduct along with the relationships that persist within the organization among the co-workers, seniors, and juniors, newcomers, the employee, and employers all are directed and governed as per the above stated 4 mental models. These models determine how different people will act, and behave with each other. What level of expectations they will have from each other and how they will treat each other.
