Effect of poverty on children development:
Poverty affects many people,but arguably the effects of poverty are seen mostly in children.
There are significant affects of poverty on children development. Poverty has negative impacts on children health, social, physical, emotional,edu educational and behavioural development. Poverty can harm children through negative effects it has on their families and home environment.
Mental and Physical Health:
First of all children growing up in poverty face multiple health related disadvantages. They are more likely to be born with low birthweight and malnourished. Low birthweight is significant factor in children's mental and physical health outcomes. As people living in poverty have limited education and resources,it reduces their ability to provide a responsive stimulating environment for their children. Children living in poverty are more likely to feel like a failure and have a sense of hopeless about their future. Poverty can be toxic to a developing brain. A healthy self esteem is crucial to a child health, if the level of confidence not strong then children may be susceptible to unhealthy habits. If there is less access o healthy meal and proper attire then children might put at risk of various diseases and have low IQ level.
Education:
Poverty can impact children ability to succeed in school.Education begins at home. Children living in poverty are less likely to be read to, highly restricting proper growth of their skills. Further parents who haven't received a proper education tends to underestimate the importance of education. They are hesitant to waste money on schools. The cost of school is having a deep emotional impact on children. They felt embarrassed because their parents couldn't afford the cost of school life. Children from poorer background lag at all stages of education.
Social,Em Emotion and Behavioural outcomes:
Poverty is linked with poorer social, emotional and behavioural outcomes for children. There is big importance of quality of parental relationship on children's wellbeing. If there is environment of distress and depression in home then their will be negative affect on children behavioural growth. Children from low income families often forgo events like school trips and other costly assignment, which put adverda effects on their social and behavioural wellbeing. So growing up poor increase the likelihood that children will have poor emotional and behavioural health.
