Answer #1

a. D = WT allele that produces the full-length functional protein
d2 = Mutant allele that produces a truncated protein with reduced function
So, there are two bands in the Dd2 lane

b. d1 could be a null allele
i.e. there is no transcription/translation of the d1 allele

c. d1 allele does not produce any band
So,
d1d2 = A single band corresponding to the d2 allele
d2d2 = A single band corresponding to the d2 allele

d. d2 = A premature stop codon due to a nonsense mutation at the 3'-region of the gene
d1 = A mutation in the promoter sequence

Can you please help me with this problem: 3. The allele b gives Drosophila flies a black body, and b+ gives brown, the wild type phenotype. The allele wx of a separate gene gives waxy wings, and wx+ gives nonwaxy, the wild type phenotype. The allele cn of a third gene gives cinnabar eyes, and cn+ gives red, the wild-type phenotype. 2. A dominant allele H reduces the number of body bristles that Drosophila flies have, giving rise to a “hairless” phenotype. In the homozygous condition, H is lethal. An independently assorting dominant allele S has no effect on bristle number except in the presence of H, in which case a single dose of S suppresses the hairless phenotype, thus restoring the "hairy" phenotype. However, S also is lethal in the homozygous (S/S) condition. What ratio of hairy to hairless flies...

Can someone please help me with the following questions. Please provide an answer/explanation especially for the first three. ?. Suppose a population of flour beetles has 1,000 individuals. Normally the beetles are red; however, this population is polymorphic for a mutant autosomal body color, black, designated by bb. Red is dominant to black, so BB and Bb genotypes are red. Assume the population is at Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, with equal frequencies of the two alleles. What would be the allele frequencies...
