How does retributivism provide a deserved and fitting " constraint on the imposition of punishment under a utilitarian theory of deterrence ?

Retributivism is a system of the criminal justice system where the criminal is punished according to its crime. Here crime is detected and punishment is ensured. Here the criminals are punished through retribution for the harm caused by them. No consideration is shown to the criminals and they have to suffer.

According to the theory of utilitarianism it is suggested that a criminal must be punished for the wellbeing of the society. But the punishment must be fruitful. The theory of utilitarianism suggests that the consequence must be good. By violation the ethical principle if we get the good consequences then there is no violation of the morality. In this perspective it appears that the retributivism may have adverse result. It does not ensure the good consequence. It may hamper in the rehabilitation of the convicts. On the other hand such concept may lead the convicts to another offense. Therefore in the perspective of utilitarianism this is not supported.
