Answer #1

a)

The two fire trucks could be located in following pairs of communities to ensure that all communities can be reached in 34 minutes or less

  1. A, E   (Fire truck at A will cover A,B,C and fire truck at E will cover D,E,F,G)
  2. A, G   (Fire truck at A will cover A,B,C and fire truck at G will cover D,E,F,G)
  3. B, D   (Fire truck at B will cover A,B,D,F and fire truck at D will cover C,D,E,G)
  4. B, G   (Fire truck at B will cover A,B,D,F and fire truck at G will cover C,D,E,F,G)
  5. C, F   (Fire truck at C will cover A,C,D,G and fire truck at F will cover B,E,F,G)

---------------------------------

b)

The additional consideration is total time to reach other locations from the location of the fire truck. It depends upon the distance of the fire truck locations to other locations. This is an important consideration. Therefore, site selection should be made in a such way, that total time to reach all the locations for truck fire trucks, is minimized.
