Answer #1

Ans (c) : 6n ( As the G2 Phase of cell cycle comes after the completion of S phase of cell cycle & in S phase, the doubling of DNA content takes place during replication. As, the haploid DNA content is 3n , so in S phase the content will become 6n (3n * 2)& hence , the cells in G2 phase after the S phase will have 6n DNA content.

Ans (a) : homologous chromosomes pair up at prophase ( It is incorrect statement about mitosis, because the pairing of homologous chromosomes takes place in the prophase I (Zygotene stage) of meiosis I , so that recombination between homologous chromosomes can take place in pachytene stage of prophase I of meiosis I. This feature is absent in mitosis. Rest of the statements are true about mitosis.)

Can someone please check my answer? Understanding chromosome number and behavior during cell division is an important concept in genetics. Fill out the chart below for each phase of mitosis in terms of N (where N = haploid number). For example, humans have a haploid number of 23. There are 46 chromosomes (2N) present in prophase of mitosis. Each chromosome is present in its replicated form (i.e. as sister chromatids) so there will be 2 chromatids per chromosome and the...

Simulate mitosis by drawing and include the following: Instructions: Set up your cell. The cell you start with should be: A diploid cell It should contain 2 homologous pairs of chromosomes (the cell has more chromosome pairs, but we are just looking at 2 of them) It should be in G1 of the cell cycle, before DNA replication occurs Be sure to show 2 genes that are both heterozygous . There should be one gene on each chromosome. Go through...

Meiosis is composed of two chromosomal division called Meiosis I and Meiosis II.  Each of the two divisions consists of Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase and each of these phases is designated I or II according to which division it is a part of.  Be sure you know what happens in each phase in regard to the chromosomes, chromatids, spindles and the nuclear envelope.  During which phase does synapsis occur and crossing over begin?  And in which division, Meiosis I or Meiosis II...
