ANSWERS

1) If a child refuses to take medication, doctors may prescribe a better-tasting medication or might give one shot of antibiotic using a syringe or presribing syrup form of medication.

2) If a child shows clingy behavior, do not ignore or push as he/ she may be demanding affection. It should be preferred that parents should be responsive to the feelings of children. Making a schedule for the child may increase the predictability of the lives of child. Using pictures may help the child to recognize the schedule.

3) If a child opens the gate without permission, he should be told politely that proper manners include knocking the door before opening it. Knocking confirms that other person will grant the permission to open the door. The child should be handled responsibly and politely.

4) If the child stands on the chair, help him sit down, but I will not say him/her anything while helping him sit down. After helping him sit down, he should be told politely that he/she may fall down if he/ she stands like that.

5) The child whining behavior can be dealt with-

  • Giving attention to whining behavior of child may reinforce that behavior and the child may repeat this behavior again.
  • Ignoring attention seeking behaviors of children may be the best option or modification of behavior for the child.
  • Once the child observes that the behavior is no longer given attention, the child may discontinue the behavior.
