Answer #1

The F1 genotype is Rp/rP which is obtained by the cross between the RRpp and rrPP parents. This F1 will produce the gametes: RP, Rp, rP and rp. Among these gametes, Rp and rP are the non recombinant gametes and RP and rp are the recombinant gametes. As the two alleles are separated by a 7 map units distance, it means that the recombinant will occur at 7% of the total offspring. Hence the proportion of formation of recombinant gametes RP and rp is 3.5:3.5 each. The proportion of formation of the parental gametes is 93% and hence the other two gametes will be produced in 46.5:46.5. hence the proportion in which the gametes are produced is - Rp:rP:RP:rp = 46.5 : 46.5 : 3.5 : 3.5.

In flamingos, genes A and B are known to be 21 map units apart on chromosome #5. You mate an AA:BB male with an aa:bb female to produce F1 flamingos. a. What gametes will be made by these F1 individuals and in what proportions? b. When the F1's are bred to each other, they produce a total of 276 offspring. How many of these offspring would you predict should have the genotype Aa:BB?

Explain why two genes 50 or more map units apart on a genetic map can only result in a maximum of 50% recombinant gametes in two point cross. To answer this, ask yourself what percentage of recombinant gametes would result if the probability of crossing over in a tetrad involving these genes were 100%, as it would be if the two genes are 50 or more map units apart.

    27. An individual has the following genotype. Gene loci (A) and (B) are 15 map units apart, which determines their probability of recombination. 1) Indicate all the possible gametes that this individual can produce (with crossing over), 2) Label the gametes that are recombinant and non- recombinant. 3) Calculate the recombination frequency of the recombinant and non-recombinant gametes. The genes are not COMPLETELY linked. 28. Now imagine the genes are completed linked in #27. 1) What are all possible gametes?
