Biopsychosocial model provides an holistic understanding of the illness -genetics, psychological and social causes. It tells us that there are many contributing factors to an illness and the cause of an illness may not be what it seems to be. Also, it can tell us who are more prone to a disorder more than others and why it is so.
Biopsychosocial model of anxiety -
Biological factors - Chemical imbalances, heightened sensitivity to stress, disruption in serotonin and dopamine neurotransmitters causes anxiety disorders and there is also genetic predisposition which makes few people more prone to anxiety over others.
Psychological factors - early childhood experiences especially those involving parents affects a person's perceived control over situations. Unfortunate childhood experiences brings low perceived control and the person feels overwhelming and unable to cope with stressful situations. It produces distorted cognitive beliefs, which further aggravates the condition.
Social factors- Many social factors can act as a trigger for anxiety. They are gender, age, education, peers, work, health conditions etc.
