Heritability is a concept that describe how much of total phenotypic variation in a population is due to variation in genetic factors.As we know, phenotype that vary between the individuals in a population is caused by both environmental factors and genetic factor ,as well as various interaction between genes and the environmental factors.So, we can say that a high heritability indicate that much of phenotypic variation can be due to genetic factor as compare to environmental factors whereas,in low heritability environmental factors are likely to have greater impact on the phenotypic variation as compare to genetic factor.

Heritability may be measured by two type broad sense and narrow sense heritability.
