A search engine is a web-based tool that searches the result of the given query that is entered by the searcher and in a result search engine provides the list of relevant websites according to the entered keywords.

One way of evaluating the website quality is to use the popularity measures, these measures are based on the content of the website. A website with good quality content will more popular than a website with poor content, people like to connect with a good quality content website. Backlinks-external links are the quality measure that spikes back to the website.

Search engines always try to determine that the content on the website is according to the requirement of the searcher. Search engines didn’t determine directly the relevant content directly, there are multiple algorithms are present that are developed to look for the clues that are suggested by the website.

All these clues determine the relevance between the website and the searched data by the searcher.

  1. Keywords
  2. Page title
  3. The relevant phrases and words
  4. Amount of text that appears relevant
  5. Backlinks from web directories
  6. On page factor

By using its own algorithms, the search engine ranks its websites and show the relevant content. The search engine has its own way of ranking the website, the above-mentioned factors are the factors by which search engines rank the websites.

Mainly there are two factors that affect the rankings of search engine

  1. On-page factors: On-page factors are the factors that work on the page of the website to make the website friendly and also improve the ranking of search engines. For example, Meta tags, website pages, and title tags.
  2. Off-page factors: The off-page factors helps the search engine to improve the ranking of the website outside the webpage boundaries.

The above mentioned post attempts to provide a clear explanation regarding the search engine and its role in evaluating the website quality. The post reflects on the significance of the search engine and I totally agree with the information presented in the post which holds that search engine helps to determine the ability of a website to match the user requirement with the content provided. I also agree that there are various factors such as entered keywords, relevant phrases and words, amount of text that appears etc which determine the degree to which relevant websites will be shown to the user thus playing an integral role in providing the list of relevant websites. As mentioned in the post, I am in congruence with the fact that ranking of websites plays important role in user visibility and thus on page factors and off page factors need to be necessarily taken into consideration. The post explains the on page and off page factors very comprehensively to ensure reader understandability.
