What are the advantages of breaking a long line into tandem CONWIP loops? What are the potential disadvantages of that?

CONWIP means continuous work in progress this is a pull oriented control system. Demand leading to production.

Advantages;-

1. CONWIP has to part permanently attached to it hence anything can be attached to this temporarily even the part is produced only once.

2. It is well suited to make any made-to-order parts.

3. Prevents overloading & overproduction.

4. More efficient, lean system.

Disadvantages;-

1. Doesnot encourage autonomy in production sequence.

2. Sensitive to bullwhip effect.

3. Time consuming and doesn't keep well with deadlines.

4. A complete exclusive team thereby increase in costs.
