Great leaders attract a great following. Whether in business, politics, religion or even in communities, leadership summons people to the challenge. In organizations, the leader-follower dynamic is evident in processes, policies, and programs. Positionally, leaders not only achieve the desired results; more so, they motivate those around them to perform better. Personally, leaders gain the trust, respect, and admiration of many. Research the leadership traits, behaviors, and skills from the literature that contemporary leaders demonstrate. Then answer the following questions:

Answer #1

The power and strength behind any organization is the successful leader of that company, they know how to steer the company through hardships, seize opportunities and lead the staff to work hard for company’s goals. It is misbelieved that leadership qualities are gifted, in fact, these are traits that can be adapted and enhanced through time, once developed; the leaders can become powerful and succeed in the company. Some of these traits are mentioned here.

1- Acting strategically: A leader has to be open-minded with foresight about the actions he takes, it is an ongoing process, being genuinely interested in the company and wider business environment, maintaining positive outlook and focusing on future of company’s operations are things to be focused on are key for a strategic thinker.

2- Effective communicator: The leaders know when they should give opinion and when to listen, they explain effectively about the goals and tasks to their employees. Communication with different levels of employees, telephonic, email or social media, a good leader should have perfected his verbal and nonverbal exchange of ideas to be more approachable by staff and clients.

3- Flexibility: The leaders should be aware of situation, understanding different people and how to react with them, solutions are not always the same, It differs from person to person, therefore, by reading the moment, leaders should be able to identify the suitable reaction they should give to a particular scenario based on future effects and reactions.

We can say that leadership is art form as it is about being socially aware than being smart, leaders should have emotional intelligence more than just having higher intelligence quotient (IQ), as working with people especially influencing them, leaders need to have more emotions towards dealing with them than having more intelligence over them, a good leader will balance both equally, yet it is more of an emotional task therefore, it is considered to me form of art. Being a leader does not mean having a manager post, it is rather the power of having influence on people, and as artist start small then grow gradually, a leader can be a group peer who starts with influencing his surrounding and gradually improves the skills to become a successful leader (Ovari, n.d.).

The leader I admire and impressed me is Muhammad Son of Abdullah – Last messenger of God, he was a political, social religious leader from year 570-632. He is considered one of 10 most influential people of all time. There are many leadership qualities that an individual must have to be a successful leader such as honesty, communication skills, optimism and being a role model, some characteristics that Muhammad had were trustworthy, he was known as trusted and honest, even those who opposed his ideas and stood against him accepted that openly. Other characteristic is involving the people in decision making process, while in battle of Trench was happening he took suggestion of his companions and worked to achieve the idea which was making a trench surrounding them which was a deemed to be successful decision made. He was known to be compassionate and empathy of his companion as he did not burden them more than they could handle in many stages of life. Being just is also one of his leadership skills that he used; only not do whatever in his power to make life of his people easier, he also was just and did not discriminate based on gender, class or race.

The term boss is used in negative connotation by younger workforce and seen as aggressive, and non-cooperativeperson, whereas a leader is seen as a person who is willing to take the team to higher place in achieving goals and targets, my manager is a leader in my point of view, as he managed to work with the team as part of the group and as team player, and he always try to build the best team by consulting the team he has and hiring the best staff to achieve the targets as a team, although, there are mix situations where the leader has to become a boss to tackle some issues regardless of emotions of employees, thus, it depends on the environment where the manager changes his style of engagement throughout the work.
