Drug cocaine is a controlled drug which is used for medical uses as well as abusive drug. The other names of cocaine are coke, snow ,while lady etc. It is also a stimulant drug which means it fasten up the speed of the message passing between the brain and other parts of the body. It mainly effects the central nervous system which readily reduce contact with the reality and produce intensive happiness.

  • Latency is the time period that is taken for a reaction to take place after implementing the action that is in other words the time period taken to reach out to the point of effect and to produce stimulus. The latency of cocaine is fast it takes between few seconds to minutes. Duration is the time period that is taken for a reaction or a stimulus to last or in other words the time during which a reaction continues. The duration of the drug cocaine is 5- 90 minutes. The latency and duration differs depending upon the mode of comsumption.
  • Psychoactive effect is the effect that is caused by the consumption of a psychoactive drug which intensively effects the brain causing a change in the level of consciousness, perception and the behaviour as well as other psychophysiological functions. So psychoactive acute effects are the immediate effects induced by the brain after the consumption of the drug cocaine. The cocaine increases the production of the chemical messenger dopamine. As a result of accumulation of dopamine between the nerve cells in the brain , the person lose connection with the reality for a period of time.The psychoactive acute effects of the drug cocaine are
  1. restlessness
  2. high mental alertness
  3. extreme happiness and energy
  4. Nausea
  5. constricted blood vessels
  6. a raise in the body temperature and pressure
  7. Sweating
  8. hypersensitivity to all the senses
  9. paranoia
  10. dilated pupils
  11. irregular heartbeat
  • Chronic effects -tolerance, psychological and or/physical addiction : The tolerance rate of the cocaine is high. It has the capability to produce the same effects when produce during the first consumption and the effects produced during the nth consumption with the same amount. The person obtains tolerance to the drug. The person attains tolerance even after just one use and eventually gets addicted to it. As the mind gets used to the reaction produced by the drug the person starts to abuse it. As a part of psychological effects the person starts to loss clarity upon the mind , depression,intense drug craving , irritative,hallucination,lose of temper,anxiety etc.The diseases caused by the cocaine are also linked to mode of consumption that is snorting,smoking,injection etc.
  1. Nose bleeds- is the disease caused when the drug is abused by snorting . The drug is consumed through the nose and this causes infection to the nose lining resulting in the bleeding.
  2. Lung disease - some of the common lung diseases like cancer, asthma etc can be caused. This is mainly caused when the drug is taken through the smoking.
  3. Mood disorders - The person will not have control over their mood. The person will lose interest in activities, depression,anxiety, high temper,unpredictable behaviour etc are the features of the mood disorders.
  4. Cardiovascular disease - is the disease involving heart and blood vessels. The stimulation of dopamine in high rate results in the cardiovascular disease and the continues irregular heartbeat
