Collagen is the structural protein in basal lamina and connective tissue. This protein is an insoluble fibrous protein and connects its molecule to make long thin fibrils of similar structure. The basal lamina is made of Collage IV while connective tissue is made of Collagen I. However, elastin is another structural protein found in the connective tissue.

Entactin is found in basal lamina as the cross-linking protein. Its main function is to assemble the basement membrane.

Laminin is the cushioning protein for the basal lamina. Its main function is to provide structural scaffolding to the membrane.
