Differences between Fully Qualified Domain name and Partially Qualified Domain name:

1) Fully Qualified Domain Name: In a domain name hierarchy, The full address including the host name node up to the root node seoperated by periods is known as FQDN. The last name or the root name is always empty that is why the FQDN ends with a period(.). It reperesents a Full name of the host.

Example: challenger.atc.fhda.edu.

Here, Hostname of the "challenger" is given on the challenger node. We have to take all nodes coming to the path from challenger node to the root node. each node is seperated by (.) and the root node has "" name that is why FDQN always end with a dot(.),

Root Label ledu edu. Domain name Label fhda fhda.edu. Domain name Label atc atc.fhda.edu. Domain name Label challenger challe

2) Partially Qualified Domain Name (PQDN): It is the hostname address that does not go till the root. PDQN does not end with dot (.). It it used when, In the hierarchy, requested host belongs to the same client or site. In this case, requester fullfills the remaining portion of the address (known as suffix) as it is already knowing it.

Example: example

If a requester in the node "fdha.edu." site requests for the challenger computer then it uses only "challenger" as hostname because the remaining address "fhda.edu." is already known by it as this is its own address.
