Have you experienced age discrimination as Gen Z and how might it impact your workplace communications?
Yes, I have experienced age discrimination as Gen Z. I am in my early 20’s and work for an organization which has average age of 35 years. All the head of the departments are more than 50 years of age with rich experience. Recently, I was a part of monthly meeting of a department where I observed that team did not allow me to speak up. Whenever, I raised my point, other members including the department head would stop me in between due to which I couldn’t share my thoughts. Also, post meeting, one of the senior employees told me to only listen in the meetings.
It will impact my workplace communication as I will be hesitant going forward to share my thoughts in the meeting. Also, I will not be comfortable talking to team members on the subject as I don’t think they are interested. It will impact my morale and motivation at work
