Answer #1

Meiosis 11

In meiosis 11, the cells are divided a second time to separate the sister chromatids in each chromosomes. It is very similar to mitosis and that the chromosomes lines up and are separated along the centromere. Thus this division maintain the haploid count in cell. However, this stage is different from mitosis in that it does not create genetically identical haploid cells. Because of the exchange of genetic information in meiosis1, the sister chromatids in each chromosomes are already different ,thus genetically unique gamates are formed at the completion of meiosis11.

Place the events of human spermatogenesis in order. Not all events will be placed. First event Diploid spermatogonia undergo mitosis in the seminiferous tubules. Diploid primary spermatocytes pause at prophase I of meiosis. Mitotic daughter cells either remain spermatogonia or migrate to lumen as primary spermatocytes. Haploid spermatids are produced. Continued differentiation during spermiogenesis yields mature haploid sperm cells. Secondary spermatocytes undergo meiosis II. Haploid secondary spermatocytes are produced. Last event Answer Bank Diploid sperm are produced.

    1. Draw out ALL of the stages of Mitosis AND Meiosis (I and II). Use at least 3 homologous pairs. 2. Label each stage and the hallmark of that stage. Show how chromosomes align and segregate 3. Show the points (indicate in drawing where possible) where genetic diversity is introduced AND how it contributes to diversity (Assortment of chromosomes, Random fertilization, Crossing-over between non-sister chromatids) How does trisomy 21 occur? During which stages? Indicate on your drawing for #1
