d) 2 for mitosis ; 4 for meiosis

mitosis is a type of cell division in which parent is divided into 2 daughter cells with identical number of chromosomes as that of parent cell. Cell division produce genetically identical daughter cells.

meiosis is another type of cell division in which 4 daughter cells are generated with half number of chromosomes as that of parent cell. i.e diploid cell is divided into 4 haploid cells. It is necessary for sexual reproduction. the offspring is developed by the union of egg and sperm in reproduction and the number of chromosome is restored.
