  2. The process takes place in the cytoplasm.
  3. Citric acid cycle uses as a starting point a 2 carbon molecule called acetyl Co-A.
  4. The products of citric acid cycle includes NADH which acts as an electron donor in electron transport chain.
  5. The electron chain creates a proton gradient across the mitochondrial inner membrane, using oxygen as the final electron acceptor.
  6. This energy is then used to create ATP, the final energy currency of the cells.
