The three events that occur during sexual reproduction are:

1. Gametogenesis (Formation of gametes)

2. Fertilization or syngamy (Fusion of gametes to form zygote)

3. Embryogenesis (Formation of embryo from zygote)

During gametogenesis, the male and female gametes are produced from germ cells by the process of meiosis during which genetic variation is introduced by recombination and crossing over during prophase I of Meiosis I.
