Answer #1

4 methyl benzyl alcohal is cosmetic and flavouring ingredient.

It has less solubility in water (4 g per 100ml)as compare to dichloromethane(DCM). As DCM is volatile liquid which has low vapour pressure and because of its polarity , it can dissolve wide range of organic compounds. Due to long hydrocarbon chain of benzyl alcohal it has less solubility in water while with DMC it is easily soluble due to Hydrogen bonding favoured by two electronegative chlorine atoms and low vapour pressure.
