  • The sperm plasma membrane and cortical granule membrane fuses first.
  • For a sperm to fertilise egg it should penetrate the outer most layer-jelly coat. When a sperm touches the coat it undergoes acrosomal reaction ,where the sperm plasma membrane and acrosomal membrane fuse together releasing acrosomal enzymes,these enzymes will digest the jelly coat. Now the inner acrosomal proteins extended out (actin polymerisation) and by using the proteins they bind to vitelline membrane . This allows the sperm plasma membrane to fuse with the eggs plasma membrane.
