According to Dilution formula:
M1V1 = M2V2 M1 = 12 M , V1 = ? M2 = 0.1 M , V2 = 1L (1L = 1000 mL)
12*V1 = 0.1*1
V1 = 0.0083 L
= 8.3 mL
Volume of water added = V2 - V1 => 1000 - 8.3 = 991.7 mL
Initially by taking 8.3 mL of 12 M HCl solution, to this add 991.7 mL of water to make final volume of 1000 mL.

Prepare 500 mL of a 0.1 M HCl (conc. HCl stock is approx. 12.1 M) solution by diluting the appropriate quantity of conc. HCl with distilled water. Show your instructor the calculation before making the solution. Fill your burette with the HCl solution and standardize it against sodium carbonate as follows.
How do you prepare a 6 mM solution of zinc chloride in 0.1 M MOPS buffer? How do you know how much buffer to put in the solution for the desired final concentration? Same question for preparing a 0.4 mM solution of a peptide with molecular weight of 1565.8 g/mol in 0.1 M MOPS? I dont understand how the buffer can have a different concentration than final solution but be used to make the solution?
